Winter 2009 is Approaching...
It is very difficult to pick a favorite season here. I so enjoy watching the sky. The clouds are everything from white and puffy to steel gray and leaden. Trees are anything from bare black branches reaching up to bright reds, yellows and oranges. I'm like a child in that I love walking through the leaves on the ground and listening to them crunch underfoot, occasionally bending down to pick up a leaf who's collorful pattern catches my attention. There is just a hint of a nip in the air when the wind blows off the Niagara River, yet the sun is still warm. Autumn has a sharp smell all of it's own and I look forward to days when I open the windows and let that fresh air in. Won't be long before all the storm windows are down. I have already exchanged my crisp, cool ironed sheets for soft, warm slightly fuzzy flannel ones.
We have a winner from this summer's survey drawing. George and Manon from New Hampshire have won a free nights stay for filling out the survey asking how you located Sunny's Roost for their stay in Lewiston. The drawing was held at the beginning of October and they have been contacted and are looking forward to a visit some time in the coming year. Congratulations George and Manon!
This year I have come up with maple walnut and corn scones both served with maple butter. Poor Bob, he and his office had had to suffer through taste testing my scone experiments. Pumpkin pancakes or waffles, German pancakes with an apple filling and orange maple pancakes are all great fall flavors, too. Pair them with local made maple bangers or bacon for a hearty breakfast to start you day. All my egg dishes are always available, and for those who would like to add breakfast sweets to an egg breakfast I found a great apple coffee cake recipe.
There are still activities to consider attending this year. The Reptile Experience at the Niagara Falls Aquarium on November 14, and beginning November 21 and on through January 3 the Fatima Shrine has their Festival of lights. Alone with these planned events all the museums are open through the month and the Outlet Mall will be starting their shopping season right after Thanksgiving. Plan now to attend the Christmas in the Village Historic Tour of Homes in Lewiston December 5-6.

We've found that the simpler down home breakfast items are in greater demand than the gourmet items. The most requested item is by far, Sunny's scones; blueberry, cranberry-orange, or pecan praline. Sunny makes the scones fresh every morning. Add homemade orange-honey butter to fresh baked scones warm from the oven. Send us an email and we'll share the recipe.
